Our Associate Director Michael Hill, travels to Binghamton, NY and conducts an adoption seminar for The Apalachin Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
I had the opportunity to travel to Binghamton last week for two reasons:
Reason #1 – The Apalachin Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. conducted a baby items drive for Adoption STAR as a part of their Regional Day of Service. Sorority member Stacy Marrow was instrumental in spearheading this incredibly generous drive, and we’re so appreciative of the great number of items that will be donated to Adoption STAR babies and their new adoptive parents thanks to the Apalachin Alumnae. So, part of the reason I took a trip across the state was to pick up these items and say a big “thank you” in person.
Reason #2 – Stacy Marrow figured that while I was visiting the area, why not set up an adoption seminar for the members of her sorority? I thought this was a brilliant idea, and is very representative of the community-based education we like to do. Having that said, I spent two hours with the sorority sisters on Saturday, April 6th presenting a wealth of information about Adoption STAR and adoption in general. The presentation was well received and quite informative, largely due to the very thoughtful questions that everyone in attendance was willing to ask.
Adoption STAR’s new adoptive parents (who unlike biological parents, do not experience pregnancy and birth) often do not have the usual baby showers and pre-parenting items that are so very important when greeting a new son or daughter. The Apalachin Alumnae’s generosity will go a long way towards helping on this front, and their willingness to dive in and become well educated on adoption was truly the proverbial “icing on the cake.”
THANK YOU, Stacy Marrow and all the wonderful women of the Apalachin Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Your support of Adoption STAR and interest in adoption education is both noteworthy and deeply appreciated.
