The Taste of Diversity is an annual Buffalo-based festival that may be of interest to many Adoption STAR families, especially those that are multi-cultural, multi-ethnic or are touched by international adoption.
As per the festival’s website, “the mission of the Taste of Diversity is to promote inclusion and to enhance the quality of life for the residents of the West Side by highlighting the people and cultures that make up our community.”
It’s important to remember that Buffalo really does have an impressive level of ethnic diversity, and the West Side (where the festival is held) is perhaps the best example of this reality. The initial immigrants to the area were German Jews, followed by a major settling of Italian immigrants. Today’s West Side is home to an incredibly diverse group of people from across the globe, including: Ethiopia, Dominican Republic, Somalia, Puerto Rico, Vietnam, Rwanda, Sudan, Kosovo, Berma, Burundi, Yemen, Iran and Lyberia. All told, the West Side includes residents from more than seventy different countries, and on a daily basis one can hear over forty different languages being spoken!
Celebrate the diversity within your own family (and perhaps provide a real life “link” to your internationally adopted child’s country of origin) by attending this great festival!
