Adoption STAR families should mark their calendars for the Town of Amherst, New York’s upcoming Winterfest event.
Today’s blog post is being put up a bit late in the day today, largely because a nasty snowstorm last night made morning travel difficult here in Western New York. Adoption STAR staff made it into work safe and sound, but there certainly was a delay in our start to the day. Many of us were forced to wait for plows to come down our streets before leaving home, forced to take an alternative route to work (as local expressways and highways were closed), had to unexpectedly arrange childcare for our children (as countless local school districts were closed today), or sat in traffic for hours.
Although winter certainly does come with its annoyances, we want to encourage folks to embrace the season as much as they can. For example, the town of Amherst, New York is putting on a Winterfest celebration later this month…and you don’t have to be a town resident to attend!
Here are the details (as per a press release put out by the Town of Amherst):
“A winter wonderland will take place from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, 2015, at the Harlem Road Community Center, 4255 Harlem Road, Amherst, New York. ‘Winterfest’ will feature weather permitting outdoor activities, such as horse drawn carriage rides and games. Hot refreshments and complimentary snacks will also be available. After spending time outdoors, attendees can come inside to enjoy live entertainment by Mike Baron. There will be shows at 1:30 and 3 p.m., and indoor gym activities include a putting course, cookie decorating and crafts. For more information, call 716-631-7132.”
Although we may want to stay curled up indoors on our couches or beds for the winter, it’s great to get outside for some family fun. Little ones seems to be able to appreciate winter in a way that adults sometimes cannot, so indulge them in some winter fun by getting your family out and about this season – consider attending Winterfest!
