Hanging out at home
We live in a family-friendly and culturally diverse neighborhood in Arlington, Virginia, minutes away from downtown Washington, DC. There are parks, walking and biking trails, and playgrounds right outside our front door. We love volunteering at our local theater, tutoring high school students at a nearby community center, and staying active both indoors and out. We also enjoy traveling domestically and abroad; and fortunate enough to have traveled to Asia, Australia, Central and Latin America, Europe, and throughout North America.
What we do for fun
Jamie is looking forward to playing video games at the arcade; running from game-to-game until all the tokens are spent. He loves watching Star Wars and other science fiction movies, and looks forward to doing so with a big bucket popcorn under a tent made of blankets. Riding roller coasters, playing laser tag and jumping on a trampoline is going to be so much fun. Jamie enjoys making pizzas loaded with toppings, cheesy garlic knots, and traditional Italian specialties, such as pasta with meatballs. Jamie looks forward to vacations at the beach and swimming in the ocean.
Steven cannot wait to take your child hiking; exploring the woods, camping under a star filled sky, and backpacking while looking for magical fairies and trolls. Roasting s’mores over an open fire and eating until everyone’s hands are gooey and stomachs full. Steven is ready to go kayaking and swimming at the beach, and skiing in the snow. Attending Broadway musicals, animated movies and dance performances are sure to delight; so are art and summer camp, robotics competitions, sports games, music lessons, and all kinds of other activities.
Family and friends
Steven has family in Maryland, North Carolina, and Illinois. He looks forward to introducing your child at the family’s annual oyster roast, going for outings with grandpa, sleeping over at grandma’s and papa’s house, and playing with Steve’s many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Nearly all of Jamie’s family lives in Syracuse, New York. His younger sister lives in Boston, and older brother and his family in Atlanta. Jamie looks forward to visiting his family and many childhood friends over the holidays; playing in the snow, drinking hot cocoa and unwrapping presents will be a lot of fun.
Our best friends’ children call us “Uncles Steven and Jamie,” and we refer to the kids as our “nieces and nephews.” Spending time with the kids in our life is something very special to us. We love taking the kids to the trampoline park, attending their birthday parties, going out to eat, and babysitting. All our family and friends, including the kids, are excited to welcome your child into the family.
Thoughts on parenting
Steven (age 38) works as an information technology professional; teaching, coaching the robotics team, and supporting students’ use of technology at a private school in Washington, DC. He is also a Licensed Massage Therapist. Steven plans to cut back his working hours so that he can stay at home a few days a week. He is excited to go for walks and on play dates with friends and their children. Jamie (age 44) works for an aviation consulting company and recently finished a second master’s degree in mental health counseling. He is excited to switch careers and begin counseling teens and families. Jamie also plans to stay at home a couple days a week, and looks forward to giving rides to school and attending activities.
We believe in the power of education, creativity, and imagination. We believe in empowering children to try different activities, explore their interests, and pursue their passions. We look forward to traveling to different continents and exposing your child to various cultures. We plan to enroll your child in Montessori school during early childhood. We believe this environment will improve your child’s growth potential. We also cannot wait to snuggle up and read books with colorful characters and far off places; stories that will inspire your child and cultivate a lasting curiosity about the world.
