Vernette Boncamper, MSW
Adoption Social Worker
Vernette is a home study and post placement social worker with Adoption STAR. Vernette has advocated for underserved populations for over a decade, particularly within New York City’s child welfare system. Vernette earned her Master of Social Work (MSW) degree from CUNY Hunter College and has developed expertise in trauma-informed care, psychosocial assessments, conflict resolution, and educational advocacy. Vernette has also pursued extensive professional training in areas such as child abuse prevention, motivational interviewing, implicit bias, and trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy.
Vernette’s journey in social work began as a Waiver Service Provider, where she developed individualized health plans for families, ensuring their safety and well-being through the Bridges to Health Program. She later transitioned to a Foster Care Case Planner role, collaborating with the Administration for Children’s Services and other agencies to create family service proposals addressing safety, behavior, and overall family well-being. In this role, Vernette
found fulfillment in contributing to permanency planning and positively impacting the lives of children and families. As a Middle School Educational Specialist, Vernette worked closely with families, schools, and external organizations to address academic challenges and ensure students received the necessary interventions to succeed.
As a Forensic Social Worker, Vernette collaborates with a multidisciplinary team to safeguard the safety and well-being of New York City’s children. Vernette provides crisis intervention and advocates for her clients in family court and with agencies such as the Administration for Children’s Services and foster care organizations. Vernette takes pride in helping families navigate the complexities of the Child Welfare system, ensuring they receive the resources and support needed to thrive.
Outside of her professional work, Vernette enjoys cooking, exploring the outdoors, and spending time with her family, who have been a vital source of inspiration and support throughout her career. Vernette’s compassion drives her practice. Vernette is deeply committed to prioritizing and empowering the individuals and families she serves, and her work continues to shape her growth as a dedicated social worker.
