What Every Client Should Know

Regardless of the circumstances that have brought you to Adoption STAR, we will endeavor to make your experience with us as positive, satisfying and fulfilling as possible. We view our relationship with you as a true partnership. To that end, The Birth Parent Services Packet present to our expectant birth parent clients and The Letter of Agreement presented to our adoptive parent clients (additionally, the Adoption Services Contract for international adoption clients) tells you what you can expect from the staff of Adoption STAR and what we expect from you.

Client Confidentiality

The Agency will recognize each person’s inherent dignity, integrity and right to privacy. The Agency will assure that records will be kept confidential pursuant to sections 136 and 409-f of the NYS Social Services Law as well as 96.39(f) Policy Regarding Website Development and Maintenance Procedures, and 96.42(a-d) Retention, Preservation, Disclosure of Adoption Records and Transfer Policies and Procedures.

In the course of the adoption process, The Agency must be free to discuss all aspects of a clients file with all professionals involved in the adoption process. This includes, but is not limited to, exchanging information with adoption consultants, adoption attorneys, primary, supervised or exempt provider agencies, government entities, physicians, social workers, medical staff and any other entities involved in the adoption process.

Due to the nature of business The Agency conducts, it is mandatory that all employees understand how important confidentiality is. The Agency will not allow any employee, contract worker, board member, volunteer or intern to disclose or make use of any information, directly or indirectly, concerning a child or family, or both, other than in the course of performance of his/her duties.

All employees are required to sign a Confidentiality Forms as a condition of employment. In addition to the adoption related areas of training, additional training sessions are provided for all staff of the agency that includes areas such as adoption law, ethics in adoption, supervision and confidentiality.

The Agency considers clients as anyone who seeks information in any form, whether or not they are formally registered in its records. Employees may not discuss information about clients or employees, present or past, to anyone else unless authorized to do so.

Information that may identify a child or the family, as well as other information in the client record, is confidential.

Identifying information on the birth family may not be disclosed if the file was sealed for such a purpose.

Information released to other service providers should be on an as needed basis only. Not all information may need to be released.

Whenever applicable, The Agency will furnish or ask for authorization for release of information from clients before information is either released or asked for.

The Agency may use, or authorize to be used, non-identifying information in the client records for the purposes of research, statistics and education.

Donor Privacy Policy

Adoption STAR does not sell, rent or lend the street addresses or e-mail addresses of our donors, subscribers or clients.

Public Forums

Adoption STAR may make social media platforms, chat rooms, forums, message boards, blogs, and/or news groups available to you. Please remember that any information that is disclosed in these areas becomes public information. You should exercise caution when deciding to disclose your personal information.
