As we are in the midst of National Adoption Month, it gives us pause to consider the many other months featured on the annual calendar.
Did you know that January was National Thank You Month?
February is typically well known as Black History Month.
March is busy with National Social Work Month and Women’s History Month and of course Adoption STAR’s Birthday Month!
April provides us with Autism Awareness Month.
May is National Foster Care Month.
June gives us National Family Month and LGBT Pride Month.
July is a perfect month for National Ice Cream Month.
August brings us National Immunization Awareness Month.
September is National Hispanic Heritage Month.
October is Down Syndrome Awareness Month and SIDS, Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month.
This is just a taste of some of the awareness months in our country – there are health awareness months, cancer awareness months, cultural awareness months, and even bizarre and unique awareness months.
There are countless other issues and causes filling up awareness weeks and awareness days.
We think the message is education, education, education. Learn something new everyday and be respectful to the very many issues that affect our communities.
