Historically, it has not been common to find articles written by birth mothers that involve sharing the positive things they’ve experienced as a part of their adoption journey. However, over time we’re seeing that many more women are braving public scrutiny in order to share their perspectives as birth mothers. Their stories, the positive ones as well as the not so positive ones, have impacted many of us (especially adoption professionals) to work toward making the adoption journey one filled with realistic expectations, enhanced pre and post adoption services, compassion and respect.
In this article, Vickie wrote a Facebook post to the daughter she gave birth to 22 years ago. It was written to the child she only met at birth and may or may not meet again in the future. Her post has gone viral and the response has been overwhelmingly positive.
