A blog update: the Adoption STAR food drive was a success!
Our CEO Michele Fried has always had a passion for supporting other non-profit organizations in the Western New York area, as evidenced by the agency’s Social Action Committee. You can read more about the agency’s various committees by clicking on the following link.
With that in mind, we’d like to announce that Adoption STAR will be running a food drive on behalf of the Food Bank of Western New York during the entire month of July 2013! Please support the drive by bringing non-perishable food items to our building (131 John Muir Drive, Amherst, NY 14228) at any point between now and July 31st. Once the month is over, Adoption STAR staff will deliver the donated items to the Food Bank, in an effort to assist them with feeding individuals from all over Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, Niagara and Erie Counties.
You might wonder why summer? So welcomed by most people, is a time that the Food Bank worries. But suppose you have kids in school, kids that are able to eat breakfast and lunch at school for free. For parents barely making ends meet, these school meals are an economic lifesaver, and sometimes the best meals their children will have all day. So when school ends for the summer, these parents suddenly need to provide extra meals for their kids. With hard economic times persisting for so many, the added stress of children going hungry in the summer makes this a time for the Food Bank to collect, purchase and distribute extra food.
The Food Bank of Western New York has a particular need for the following items, so please keep these in mind:
Canned meat
Canned fish
Canned soups
Canned/dry beans
Peanut Butter
Macaroni and Cheese
Canned spaghetti or ravioli
Spaghetti Sauce
Drink Mixes
Canned or powdered milk
Juices, canned or in plastic bottles
Tea
Hot Chocolate
Coffee
Canned fruits or vegetables
Rice
Pasta
Cereals, hot or cold
If you have any questions regarding the food drive, please contact Adoption STAR Development Associate Kristin Ackerman at 716-639-3900, or kristin@adoptionstar.com
