Adoption In The News: Adult Adoption

Good Morning Everyone! Hope you’re enjoying the sun and heat that June is bringing us.

Most adoptions involve adoptive parents welcoming a child under the age of 18 into their family, however according to this NBC “Today” article, adult adoptions have been growing in popularity recently.

According to the article most states allow adult adoption and do not put strict regulations upon it. The article says that adult adoptions have less red tape than a child adoption, and in the case of the family in the story, the adoption was completed in three months.

Most of these adult adoptions involve foster parents adopting an adult who lived in their house for a long time as a foster child, but the NBC story follows a 29-year old woman who be-friended a husband and wife, who are in their early 40’s, at work. Though both of her parents are alive, the woman in the story had been estranged from them since 16.

We’d love to hear your thoughts on adult adoption.
