There are many TV shows that are taking on the topic of adoption this season. Three of these shows are “Modern Family,” “Glee,” and “Parenthood.” We would love to hear your thoughts on how TV, and Hollywood in general, discusses adoption.
We are looking for blog readers who regularly follow these shows, or any other television program that has introduced an adoption storyline, who would like to write a short blog post or posts on how the show portrays adoption. If you are interested, please email alex@adoptionstar.com.
I will get you started… If you watch Glee, you probably saw last week’s episode when Idina Menzel returned to the show to reprise her role as both birth mother and adoptive mother. There was a lot going on here, related to adoption. I appreciated the fact that the show included the birth father in the open adoption, however the use of the term “give up” in regards to Menzel’s character making an adoption plan years ago did not sit well with me. However the more worrisome part of the show was the plot line showcasing Quinn (a high school birth mother) apparently plotting to change her mind about the adoption plan she made over one year after the placement occurred.
If you watched the show, what did you think of the way Glee handled adoption in that episode?
