Add Jillian Michaels, a trainer on NBC’s “Biggest Loser,” to the list of celebrity parents who have opted for international adoption.
Michaels is currently waiting to adopt a child from the Congo and told People Magazine that she just felt it was time to become a mother.
““I’m just ready. There’s this line in When Harry Met Sally that I love more than anything: ‘When you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with someone, you want the rest of your life to start right now.’ And so, now that I know that I want to be a mother, I’m ready to be a mother right now. I’m excited, I’m nervous, I’m scared but I’m eager and ready for it when it comes.”
It is obviously Michaels’ prerogative whether to pursue a domestic or international adoption, but if you read the comments section of the article, you will find a large debate about whether to adopt domestically or internationally. Many celebrities become “poster-parents” for adoption, and it seems as if some of the commentors believe that because Michaels is a celebrity she should be setting an example by pursuing a domestic adoption.
While Adoption STAR primarily works with domestic adoptions, we do have families currently pursuing international adoption, and our belief is that there are children all over the world waiting for their forever families.
