Today, we meet our new Ohio BSW Intern for the year ~ Elizabeth Vaughn. She will be graduating with her Bachelor’s of Science in Social Work from Miami University. As a BSW student Elizabeth plans to continue straight into her Master’s program. She enjoys helping others and hopes to continue working with Adoption STAR.
Adoption STAR has been a wonderful learning experience for me overall. Adoption is such a special event in anyone’s life and I feel honored to be a part of the process in any way I can.
For the short period of time I have been with Adoption STAR I feel I have learned so much. I am so glad that I could do my internship here. The agency overall is very impressive. Even though state lines are between the offices everyone is so connected. I feel as though I work directly with the staff from the New York office as though we are in one office building. Everyone supports each other and I feel as though I could go to anyone from either office with questions I may have. Everyone is so friendly and happy and I feel as though clients see this and it makes the agency a more welcoming environment overall.
The adoption process can be intimidating to start out with on either end as a birth parent or as an adoptive parent and working with a friendly staff makes the process less stressful. I knew going into the Social Work field that I felt drawn to work with either birth parents or the adoptive parents as they both navigate the adoption process. Working with Adoption STAR I will be able to assist both.
Adoption STAR has been the best fit for me. I am excited and passionate about working with this wonderful agency throughout my internship. I attend Senior Seminar once a week where we discuss our agency and placement and basically how we feel about everything. Every week I have consistently gone in excited and happy with my placement. I am always looking forward to sharing the new things I have learned and the positive relationship I have begun to build with Angela Laman, the Ohio Program Director. Angela is the absolute best supervisor I could have ever imagined having. She is so willing to teach me and to help me learn and work my way into the field. I am very appreciative to have this internship and to work with this agency and I am excited to continue on.
