THE NEXT TEN YEARS
“We have been married for four years and have been unable to conceive a child. We also know that adoption is the path that we were intended to follow. We have the ability to provide a wonderful home for a child. We ask you to please help us become a family through adoption.”
“I am pregnant and I was told that you could help me make an adoption plan. I am afraid that I may not have the strength to go through with it but I am also know that I am not ready to be a parent.”
“I was provided your contact information by another clinic director who shared that she and her staff have been impressed with the number of high-risk women you have assisted. I would like to receive some information and if possible make an appointment to learn more about your services.”
These are excerpts from emails received by Adoption STAR. We hope to be able to assist the many people who explore adoption, the many expectant parents who are seeking counseling and support and the many referral sources who are seeking adoption education and resources especially for women who are at-risk for giving birth to children with special needs.
Into the future, Adoption STAR
- Will continue to offer exemplary services to all members of the adoption triad.
- Will continue to offer adoption planning for all children in need of adoption especially babies born with special needs.
- Will work to increase the placements of African American infants into permanent adoptive homes as a large number of African American infants continue to enter the system of out of home placement.
- Will offer additional educational workshops that would be open to the community-at-large for no fee.
- Will increase humanitarian support to Haiti. Adoption STAR currently assists two Haitian orphanages and is helping them to rebuild by providing financial assistance, much needed supplies to care and educate the many children who these orphanages care for.
Adoption STAR has always looked to the future. The agency obtained additional assumed names including Infertility STAR, Parenting STAR, and Family STAR. Utilizing the acronym STAR, the agency hopes to offer additional SUPPORT, TRAINING, ADVOCACY, and RESOURCES to the community-at-large.
There are an extraordinary high number of individuals diagnosed with fertility challenges today. This diagnosis often brings about intense feelings of grief and loss. Before one can determine if they wish to remain childfree or to consider adoption or other options, one should first explore the pain and loss of infertility. By providing informational workshops, a series of classes, and individual and small group counseling sessions the agency is able to assist individuals and couples and help them plan for the future.
Whether one becomes a parent by birth or adoption, parenthood is filled with great challenges and immense rewards. The agency hopes to offer additional parenting educational classes through small and large group sessions on issues important to parents today. The main focus will be pre and post parenthood education and support to those parents raising children with special needs.
STAR services truly captures what the agency work is all about.
It’s tough, we know, to ask for donations especially in these challenging economic times. In order to achieve these goals and to provide additional education and support to more and more families into the future, we ask for your kind and generous assistance.
