SupportEventsSOFIA enjoys putting together social events with other adoptive families including those individuals and couples who have not yet adopted. These social events have included Halloween parties, ladies night out, father's day event, trips to the zoo or museums, movie nights, etc. Meeting in a social atmosphere allows adoptive families to spend quality time together. Many of our families find that having the opportunity to talk to other adoptive parents provides them much needed support, as well as friendships. WorkshopsEducation is an important element in adoption. Adoption STAR is SOFIA's sponsor for all educational workshops throughout the year. These sessions are often on topics such as Baby Care, Transracial Adoption Panel, Financial Planning for the Adoptive Family, African American Hair and Skin Care, Growing With Your Open Adoption and other discussion groups. ResourcesSOFIA often financially assists with the birth mother support group known as Blue Rose, specifically donating and assisting at the Annual Birth Mother's Day Celebration. Both adoptive families and birth families find this celebration a wonderful way to connect and respect each other's important role in the adoption process. |
