Adoption In The News

Good Morning everyone! Hope everyone had a great weekend and enjoyed a great Birth Mother’s and Mother’s Day.

In case you missed it yesterday, an Adoption STAR family had a feature story in the Buffalo News yesterday! They have a very interesting adoption journey, having gone through the process twice in less than one year in order to adopt their daughter Amelia as well as her biological sister Olivia, born about 10 months later.

These next two stories showcase the differences between being open about adoption, and being closed. Actress Angelina Jolie was nervous about taking her children to her new animated movie “Kung Fu Panda 2” because the main character spends the movie on a search for his biological father. The article said that Jolie told USA Today that she and her partner Brad Pitt were ready to talk about their children (several of whom have been adopted) about orphanages, but the children loved and appreciated the movie. “We talk about those issues at my house all the time, very openly. We’ve had those discussions so often, they’re such happy, wonderful discussions,” Jolie said.

While Jolie and Pitt may be open about adoption in their household, here is a Mother’s Day story with a peak into the window of how adoption was treated in the 1950’s. The author’s mother was adopted and her mother died before finding her biological family. The story is about the daughter’s search for her mother’s birth family, as well the relationship between her mother and grandmother.
